Geary Enbody, an instructor with the 9-1-1 Driving School in the 192nd Avenue Station, talks to Washougal High School freshman Brody Oberg. Enbody, an officer with the Woodland Police Department, is among the law enforcement personnel who serve as knowledge/skills examiners. The driving school provides teen drivers safety education and certification courses, medical assessment drives and programs for mature drivers.

9-1-1 Driving School hires police officers as instructors

A recent addition to the 192nd Station development offers an assortment of driving courses as well as Department of Licensing knowledge and road tests. 9-1-1 Driving School has hired retired and off-duty police officers to serve as knowledge/skills examiners. In November 1982, our state's unemployment rate peaked at 12.2 percent, the highest since the Great Depression. Interest on a fixed rate home loan was 13.4 percent, and an 11.5 inflation rate burned through our checkbooks. The economy was a mess.

Area residents have been enjoying hamburgers and chicken sandwiches at K & M Drive-In, since the Feb. 11 opening day. The restaurant, owned by Kevin and Melinda Bruzzone, of Washougal, is in the former Old Fashion Maid location, in Camas. Kevin has more than 30 years of experience working in the restaurant business.

A local husband and wife have teamed up to open a restaurant in Camas. K & M Drive-In, named after its owners Kevin and Melinda Bruzzone, is located in the building previously occupied by The Old Fashion Maid Restaurant. "We feature fresh ground beef hamburgers charbroiled to order, hand-cut french fries and hand-scooped ice cream shakes," Kevin said. Former Dept. of Defense employee joins staff at Columbia Ridge

A woman who spent 3 1/2 years promoting concerts and celebrity appearances on an Army base in Qatar is a new staff member at Columbia Ridge Senior Living. Deborah Campbell is the community outreach director at the retirement and assisted living community, in Washougal. She is a former Department of Defense employee who provided marketing services for Armed Forces Entertainment. That included promoting appearances by Denzel Washington, Kid Rock, Washington Redskins cheerleaders and professional golfers as they traveled to entertain soldiers. Papa’s Ice Cream to close its doors on Saturday

Ivan Gering, co-owner of Papa's Ice Cream in downtown Washougal, plans to close up the shop on Saturday. He recently announced the closure, due to medical reasons. Gering, 70, and his wife, Chris, opened Papa’s, in August 2008, in the Washougal Town Square, at 1700 Main St., Ste. 130.
