Papermakers clinch league baseball title The Camas baseball team's bats came through in the 11th inning when Tyler Forner's single allowed Shane Jamison to score to give the Papermakers a 4-3 win over Battle Ground on Monday, April 29. The victory clinched the 4A Greater St. Helens League championship for Camas (9-2 league), which is two wins in front of second-place Skyview. Camas softball smashes Union The Camas softball team has been struggling a bit this season, but the Papermakers' bats heated up on Monday, April 29, in their 10-0 win over Union. Mary Pipkin got the win in the circle for Camas (4-5 league), and teammate Katelin Hancock went 3-for-4 at the plate. The Papermakers sit in third place in the league standings. Washougal softball wrapping up difficult season The rebuilding Washougal softball team suffered a 15-4 loss to Columbia River on Monday, April 29. The Panthers are 2-12 this season (0-6 2A Greater St. Helens League). Camas tennis heating up for postseason The Camas girls tennis team topped Heritage 5-1 on Monday, April 29, to move into second place behind Union in the 4A GSHL standings. Jace Moriki won 6-2, 6-0, and Ally Schnell defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-4 for Camas in singles play. In doubles, Tionni Trieu and Angela Xu won 6-0, 6-1; Emma Carag and Asia Crook dominated with a 6-1, 6-0 victory; and Tyler Cheng and Lydia Lee beat their opponents 6-2, 6-1 for the Papermakers. Camas soccer loses to Skyview, can still make playoffs The Camas boys soccer team lost to Skyview 2-1 on Friday, April 26. Skyview and Union have clinched 4A District 3/4 tournament berths. Camas (3-2-2 league) needed to beat Battle Ground on Tuesday, April 30 (after this edition's deadline) to secure a spot in the bi-district tournament. If the Papermakers lost, Heritage earns the 4A Greater St. Helens League's final postseason berth. Last season the Papermakers failed to qualify for state tournament play for the first time in 19 years. Washougal golf drops close match to Hockinson The Washougal girls golf team had home-course advantage, but couldn't take down Hockinson, which flew by Washougal 227-239 on Monday, April 29, at Orchard Hills Country Club. It was the last home match of the season for the Panthers, who will finish the season at the bottom of the 2A GSHL standings. Washougal tennis swings toward postseason The Washougal girls tennis team tied Ridgefield 3-3, but won 8-7 on total sets on Monday, April 29, in Ridgefield. Emily Johnson, the Panthers' top singles player, beat Kayla Bennett 6-3, 6-3 after missing several matches due to a concussion. Washougal's Ellie Lewis also won her match, as did the doubles team of Beyonce Bea and Paige Wilson. The Panthers are in second place in 2A GSHL play behind Columbia River. The two teams will meet in the last match of the regular season on Friday, May 3, at Columbia River.
