At Pool of the Winds, Hardy Creek is channeled into a funnel-like chamber in the cliff face. It is approximately 1.25 miles from the Hamilton Mountain trailhead, and climbs 700 feet.
Pool of the Winds, which looks out onto Hardy Falls, is a hike that almost all can do, including families.
The Beacon Rock trail climbs 848 feet in nearly a mile and is composed of basalt. Henry Biddle purchased the rock in 1915 for $1 and during the next three years, constructed a trail with 51 switchbacks, handrails and bridges.
The Beacon Rock hike heads up immediately, with 848 feet to climb in less than a mile. But the grade is surprisingly gentle, with plenty of places for hikers to catch their breath and enjoy a view. Moss covered boulders line the wide gravelled path at the base, and the trail then curves around to the south side of the rock.
Hardy Falls plunges 90 feet straight into a pool below. It is one of the breathtaking sights hikers will experience at Hamilton Mountain.
