State champions come to Camas for wrestling camp

Clark County high school wrestling greats Ben Vom Baur, Cory Vom Baur and Kyle Bounds are coming to Camas to help kids. All three are going to be a part of the second Clark County Coach-A-Roo Wrestling Camp July 25 to 29, at Skyridge Middle School, 5220 N.W. Parker St. "The purpose of the camp is to provide the older wrestlers with new techniques, and giving them the valuable opportunity to reinforce crucial fundamentals by teaching them to the younger wrestlers," said director Brody Faler. "This camp builds lasting relationships and promotes the betterment of Clark County wrestling as a whole." Ben Vom Baur compiled a record of 102 wins and 0 losses when he wrestled for Evergreen High School, between 1996 and 98. He also won three state championships. At Boise State University, Vom Baur became a 2-time Pac 10 champion and a 2-time NCAA All-American. He was head coach of state wrestling champion Wasatch High School, in Utah. He was also a former head and assistant coach for the University of Wyoming. Vom Baur is currently an assistant coach at the University of Northern Colorado. Cory Vom Baur also wrestled for Evergreen High School. He finished in the top three of his first three high school state tournaments, before finally bringing home a state championship medal during his senior year in 2005. He went on to wrestle at the University of Wyoming, and qualified for the NCAA tournament all four years of college. He is currently an assistant wrestling coach at Evergreen High School. Bounds became a 3-time state champion for Columbia River High School, and was an NCAA qualifier at Michigan State University. He is currently an assistant wrestling coach at Union High School. Registration for the county wrestling camp costs $40 for Kindergarten through sixth-graders and $80 for seventh- through 12th-graders. It is only $40 for the seventh- through 12th-graders who stay and coach the younger kids during the second session. All high school Clark County wrestling champions can attend the camp for free. Sign up at the door on the first day of camp at 9:30 a.m., or directly through Camas Community Education at www.camas.wednet.edu.
